Over the past 7 years, I have had the opportunity to learn about film and television from all angles. I've worked at production, management and development companies, completed my MFA in Screenwriting and taught both at the university level as well as in locally-hosted and virtual workshops for budding screenwriters from all over the world. I find that teaching any subject is the best way to ensure a person truly understands and critically engages with their own work, so that experience has been particularly rewarding. I look forward to additional teaching roles in the future!
When it comes to my own writing, 2023 was a wonderful year! My first short film and pilot were shot and edited in the spring, followed by an exciting festival run. Both were projects outside of my typical comfort zone, and it was a true adventure! While I like to gain experience in various genres, my strongest work involves utilizing Sociology to investigate how characters would respond in their relationships. I particularly enjoy alternate history/historical fiction, dramedies and above all else - adaptations. Having worked in publishing prior to pursuing creative writing as a career, IP is fascinating to me, and I love doing a deep dive into the content to ensure audience and fan enjoyment when the story winds up in its new medium. |

Role: Co-Writer, Executive Producer
Status: Completed May 2023. World Premiere was at the Bolton International Film Festival. We took 2nd place at Austin Film Festival 2023 for our category, and were longlisted for the British Short Film Awards.
Logline: A young couple think they're ready to do the deed on prom night, but mishap after mishap forces them to question their relationship and their own desires.
Context: I was approached by the incredible India Opzoomer, who co-wrote and directed this short film, for one of her MFA Production projects while we were both graduate students at the University of Texas at Austin. The first draft of this short came when our mutual professor, Richard Lewis, paired us up for an assignment in her screenwriting course. It evolved into the final project, which explores the feeling many young people have: a desire to grow up and do "adult things" because our friends say they're cool. There are subtle references to one of the leads being demisexual, and struggling to fit the boxes everyone else seems to find simple; the omissions and lies that often exist behind the pressures of our peers; and the lies people often tell themselves after they realize they've made a mistake they can't take back.
